Isn't this good news? I thought we didn't want the S.510 bill to pass? Isn't this the bill that would kill off small farms/farmers and give the FDA unprecedented authority over the entire food supply, good or bad? If it is, this is also the bill that needed a lot of fine tuning. . .

Er, see what I mean? http://foodfreedom.wordpress.com/2010/04/24/s-510-is-hissing-in-the-grass/#more-1828

S.510 is not a good thing, I don't think.

The way these things are worded is very decieving sometimes. You don't know exactly whether yes means no or no means yes or yes means yes or or or.....

And then there's the hidden pork. A Bill before CONgress should have to be about what's on its face. Never is though. Always a few billion hiding between the lines. When did that get started? Why was it ever allowed, even though our Executive Branch knows it's not really even legal? Can't they be held criminally liable for extra baggage?

That is why it is called politics. Politics and politicians are deceiving.

The "pork barrel" is why I would like to see the Line Item Veto.

Thank God the Senator from Montana has some guts.

http://tester.senate.gov/Newsroom/pr_041410_foodsafety.cfm

It's a lot more than can be said for the Senators from South Dakota. Bunch of gutless wonders.

But then, there's always someone who doesn't agree even with the more logical of moves: http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2010/05/whats-wrong-with-the-tester-amendments/

Not that some good points aren't made, they just don't seem very popular with the small farmers (that term also needs defining, as you will see if you check out the reader comments. Some of those people are very bright and hit the nail on the head). Without the Tester Amendment, small farmers don't stand a chance, I fear. AFAIC, intrastate or interstate doesn't matter. It's moot. People are allowed to bring in all kinds of things from overseas, but let a small farmer bring a load of onions from Montana to South Dakota and you'd think they were hauling H bombs. Good Lord. Who walked off with the common sense wand?
